PhD Position on Electrocaloric Thin Films
The Institute of Metallic Materials at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) offers a PhD position within the DFG funded Priority Programme 1599 “Ferroic Cooling” (www.ferroiccooling.de). The position is focused on the growth of electrocaloric oxide thin films using pulsed laser deposition and the detailed analysis of the microstructure and the functional properties. The main emphasis of the project is to study the interplay between structural phase transitions and caloric effects in this class of materials. The work includes a close collaboration with other groups in the priority programme.
Potential Candidates should hold a Masters or Diploma degree in Materials Science or Physics and must show strong knowledge in experimental research. Preferably, the applicant has also experience in one or more of the following topics: thin film deposition techniques, epitaxial growth, electrocaloric or ferroelectric materials, structural characterisation with X-ray and electron beam techniques. We are looking for a candidate with pronounced initiative, creativity and ability to work effectively in a team, including fluency of written and spoken English.
The salary is based upon the TV-L rules (EG 13). PhD candidates are facilitated to participate in the PhD program to successfully complete their dissertation. We offer an attractive work place with excellent facilities and environment in Dresden.
