The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) operates a suite of high performance neutron scattering instruments at the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ) in Garching near Munich. It provides access to these instruments for scientists from universities and research institutions in Germany and throughout the world. Within the user program more than 1,000 scientists visit the MLZ every year to perform experiments in the physical, chemical, biological and materials sciences. In addition, JCNS is actively pursuing a research program in the field of soft matter science and condensed matter physics. The JCNS is a partner in the newly EU-funded infrastructure project “CREMLINplus” that is particularly aiming to strengthen the scientific and technical cooperation between a new high-flux research reactor PIK (Russia, under commissioning) and European neutron research infrastructures in mutual interests of European and Russian researches. In the context of this task, JCNS will carry out the joint development of the instrumentation concept for reactor PIK by Monte-Carlo simulations of the different parts.
