YOUR TASKS

  • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research.
  • This is a full-time position for 18 months. The researcher will work within the research group of Prof. Joachim Schouteten, Prof. Hans De Steur, and Prof. Xavier Gellynck, specializing in agri-food marketing and supply chain management (https://agecon.ugent.be/home/research/agri-food-marketing).
  • We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with a strong scientific background in innovation, market analysis, and behavioral sciences in the agri-food chain, to be involved in research activities related to the work of Prof. Joachim Schouteten (sustainable innovations and entrepreneurship in the agri-food chain).
  • The postdoctoral researcher will, among other things, contribute to the socio-economic aspect of the ReJuice research project, which investigates the technical feasibility and applicability of the liquid portion of green residual streams.
  • The candidate will be involved in research closely connected to the domain of agri-food innovations with the goal of generating insights into methods applied for customer-led innovations in the agri-food industry. This includes both secondary and primary data collection and analysis, using survey techniques and interviews, as well as systematic analysis methods.
  •  Additionally, the researcher will assist in further developing research on customer-oriented innovations, follow up on ongoing (PhD) projects, write scientific papers, assist in proposal writing, and contribute to the main activities of the research group.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a thesis-based doctorate (obtained max. 6 years ago. This term of 6 years is determined by the date written on the above-mentioned required diploma) in the field of agricultural and food economics or marketing, socio-economics, marketing, innovation, food sciences, behavioral sciences, or an equivalent field.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Track record of scientific research in the targeted research domain, demonstrated by scientific publications in Web of Science journals.
  • Very good proficiency of English.
  • Proficiency in statistical software programs (e.g., Stata, R, SPSS, etc.).
  • Experience in supervising master's and/or doctoral students.
  • Experience in writing proposals.
  • Active contributions to scientific conferences.
  • Ability to ensure that professional ethics are followed in the collection, processing, and dissemination of research.
  • Advanced knowledge of quantitative research methods, including experimental design.
  • Knowledge of qualitative research methods and experience with methodologically inspired research.
  • Recommended:
    • Knowledge of Dutch.
    • Research experience in agri-food innovations, market analysis, and behavior, including research with consumers or other stakeholders in the supply chain.
    • Experience in teaching related to entrepreneurship, management, or similar subjects offered by the lecturers in our research group.
    • Interest in research in the Global South.

  • We offer you a contract of indefinite duration with a maximum term of 1,5 years
  • Your contract will start on 1/01/2025 at the earliest.
