Third-cycle subject: Engineering mechanics
We are looking for a highly motivated student with excellent academic background, who is interested in pursuing doctoral research in the area of fluid mechanics. The successful applicant should hold a master's degree with specialization in fluid mechanics and numerical simulations or experimental techniques.
The topic of this PhD project is the study of suspensions of droplets and bubbles in yield-stress fluids by numerical simulations, in close collaboration with experiments done by our collaborators. Many fluids in the industry and in nature are yield-stress fluids, for example, lava flows and mud slides, food products, oil drillings and building products. Investigating the mechanisms by which the system microstructure determines the macroscopic flow properties and vice versa will not only give valuable insights into the nature of these phenomena but will also lead to new ways to model and control these flows.The proposed project is based on highly accurate simulations of multiphase flow systems and in parallel state-of-the-art experiments done by collaborators. The candidates will contribute to develop new numerical tools and analyse theoretical models. The project is supported by the Swedish Research Council.
The successful candidate is expected to join the well known FLOW Graduate School as part of the Bio and Complex Fluid group at the Department of Mechanics. The group is one of several research groups within the PhD Program in Engineering Mechanics. The position will include about 95% research and 5% teaching assistance.

Information regarding admission and employment
Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle studies may be employed as a doctoral student. The term of the initial contract may not exceed one year. The employment may be extended for a maximum of two years at a time. However, the total period of employment may not exceed the equivalent of four years of full-time study. Decisions on employment as a doctoral student may not be appealed.
