This project is a collaboration between KU Leuven and the University of Melbourne, funded by the Global PhD Partnerships. The funding covers two PhD positions. One PhD student will spent three years at KU Leuven and one year at the University of Melbourne. The other PhD student will spent three years at the University of Melbourne and one year at KU Leuven. The supervision team at KU Leuven is Nele De Cuyper (Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences) and Marijke Verbruggen (Faculty of Economics and Business), and at Melbourne University Alexander Newman and Jason Brown.
At the heart of the project is the observation that women, particularly women in part-time employment or from a migrant background, are more vulnerable to micro-aggressions at work. This may affect their work and career-related experiences: They are more likely to get stuck in their job and this then may ultimately lead to them exiting the labor market. This project aims to study microaggressions in connection toe work- and career-related experiences of women using a mixed method design. The PhD at KU Leuven will have a focus upon part-time employment and the PhD at Melbourne upon migrant backgrounds.
