The African Genome Centre is seeking to appoint an Open Rank faculty member with expertise in Synthetic Biology, focusing on the creation of biosensors and biosystems applicable to agriculture, environment, food or biomedical fields.
The candidate should have a background in one or more of the following topics,; drug design, disease diagnosis, genome engineering for industrial purposes, optimized synthesis of various industrially relevant chemical compounds, and engineering microbial communities. Skills in designing and modeling biological circuits is very welcomed.
The applicant should have an outstanding publication track record in the area. Applicants should be proactive in pursuing an independent research program, able to work collaboratively and show evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration.
The position will be based in the newly established African Genome Center (AGC) and be part of a team of scientists involved in biodiversity studies, comparative and functional genomics, natural product chemistry, microbial engineering, agricultural and plant biotechnology.

Description of the center: The African Genome Center (AGC) in embedded within the University of Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) which is a recently established private not-for-profit institution providing a hub for research and innovation serving Africa (www.um6p.ma). AGC operates through four key research axes: Biodiversity Genomics, OMICS and Metabolic Engineering, Genome Editing, and Natural Product Chemistry and Metabolomics. AGC hosts an advanced genomics platform, which aims to serve as a hub for genome biology research and training in Morocco and Africa.
The AGC Team is an international and multicultural scientific community. Its primary mission is to democratize genomics research on the African continent. This involves conducting both basic and applied scientific research in areas such as agriculture, conservation, environment, food security, and health.
