The School of Health Sciences is seeking a professor in nursing science with a specialization in fundamentals of care and internationalisation of research and education, for a permanent post.
The position is in nursing science with a focus on fundamentals of care and internationalisation.
Örebro University is in an expansive phase, both in teaching and in research. Therefore, we are looking for someone with great dedication to develop and lead our education and research within nursing science with a focus on fundamentals of care. Besides carrying out research with high quality, an important responsibility will be to promote a higher degree of integration between research and education, on all three cycles and in an international context. The School of Health Sciences has a strong record in areas like paediatric pain, perioperative care, and fundamentals of care, including palliative care and skin integrity issues. We are therefore seeking a qualified professor to further develop our international collaboration with leading universities, in fundamentals of care.
Duties include supervision of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. Promoting and facilitating activities within the department to attract and secure external research funding are other important responsibilities. The position holder will take an overall accountability for the department’s research activities and lead the development of fundamentals of care, both nationally and internationally. She/he will develop an International Centre of Excellence on Skin Integrity Science (as part of fundamental nursing care). The roles and responsibilities of such centre are conducting research, delivering consultancy services, implementing innovation, education and designing tools to support clinical practice. The position holder will collaboratively develop a sustainable and comprehensive approach to internationalisation of both the research activities and the educational curricula in the School of Health Sciences.
Duties include teaching, developing courses and programmes offered in the subject at the undergraduate, master’s and postgraduate research levels. The needs of the organisation are essential and the position holders’ duties and responsibilities may therefore change over time. The position holders are moreover expected, within the scope of their employment, to make themselves available for executive and administrative assignments at the university. Duties also include engaging in third-stream activities.
A person who has demonstrated both research and teaching expertise shall be qualified for employment as a professor.
For any teaching staff appointments at Örebro University, applicants are expected to have completed courses on teaching and learning in higher education corresponding to ten weeks. If applicable, assessments will be made of corresponding knowledge obtained in any other way. A teacher who at the time of appointment lacks the training specified above or the equivalent, shall no later than within two years from taking up the position have completed the required courses. The candidate shall be allowed scope in their employment for this.
When appointing teaching staff, their research expertise as well as their teaching expertise shall be assessed. In the assessment, experience and qualifications in terms of collaboration with the wider community, of which the university is a part, will be evaluated, as will national and international experience and mobility. In addition, applicants’ suitability for the post will be evaluated, as will their leadership skills.
Research expertise shall be demonstrated through independent research contributions, quantitatively as well as qualitatively; continuous high-level research output; significant external research grants secured in competition with others; and through the planning, leading, and administration of research.
The candidate should have a well-acknowledged strong international leadership and publication record in the area of skin integrity applied to nursing, medical and clinical research.
Teaching expertise shall be considerable and shall have been demonstrated through teaching qualifications and experience as well as contributions to varying degrees on first, second and third-cycle courses and study programmes. Applicants shall be able to account for their teaching outlook and approach and have the ability to reflect on their own pedagogical development as well as on the teacher’s role. The applicant shall also have contributed to the development of educational activities.
