The group Decision Support for Health (DSH) at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology at Tampere University has the mission to improve decision making in various phases of healthcare (ranging from prevention and home-based settings to critical care) by developing and applying meaningful data-driven algorithms and tools. The team incorporates several decades of international experience in the field, working together with a network of top-level technical research partners, healthcare professionals and medical and health technology industry and service providers. The group in inviting applications for a fix-term position of Researcher.
The work involves research and development of machine learning based data analytics to improve employee wellbeing and productivity in the recently started research project Coachbeat. You will work closely together with Firstbeat and their R&D team to develop new methods for continuous monitoring of employee wellbeing and designing personalized wellbeing interventions, and analyse the available employee wellbeing data related to the project and Firstbeat services.
The monitoring is based on wearable sensors (heart rate, heart rate variability, and motion data) and mobile apps combined with self-reported data (e.g., questionnaires). Interventions include both AI-supported self-coaching and human health coaching, and combinations thereof. The developed methods will be validated in a large study with 4-6 companies and over 1000 employees in total. In addition to working with Firstbeat, there will be close collaboration with Aava (health care provider) and co-operating universities. Thorough analysis of results will be carried out and disseminated in scientific forums, and potentially commercialized by the participating companies. The project also offers great insights into real life product development. The work can form a solid basis for a PhD.

The position is full-time and will be filled for a fix-termed period up 20 months. Employment start date is immediately or as soon as possible. A trial period of six (6) months applies to all our new employees. The work is a good basis for a PhD thesis, and we offer guidance towards this. Close co-operation with a leading company in the field. The location is Tampere (Hervanta campus).
The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities. The starting salary will be approximately 2800 EUR/month.
