The Geothermal Science and Technology group (Prof. Dr. Ingo Sass) invites applications for the positions of
2 PhD researchers
starting from the 1 st of July 2018 or earlier. The positions are funded within a larger EU-Horizon 2020 project for a period of three years.
The first position will work on the “Petrophysical and geomechanical characterisation of Variscan reservoir outcrop analogues and reservoirs” to contribute to the work of the second position, which will focus on the “Geothermal modelling of Variscan Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) in granitic and metamorphic rocks”. Both are part of the EU-H2020 project “Multidisciplinary and multi-context demonstration of EGS exploration and Exploitation Techniques and potentials (MEET)”. Your studies will focus on four sites representative for the Variscan orogen: metasedimentary and metavolcanic successions as well as crystalline basement overprinted or not overprinted by younger tectonics. Study areas are located within Europe (Harz, Palatinate and Taunus in Germany, Northern Vosges in France, Cornwall in United Kingdom, Ardennes massif in Belgium).
Based on literature, existing maps and, where available, on previous fieldwork, you will:
in close cooperation with researchers at other universities and institutions within the MEET-project. It is expected that you will closely cooperate in field and lab work and modelling approaches with an intensive exchange with your project partners.
Your results will have a strong impact on the development of geothermal energy exploration in Europe! We are looking for highly motivated persons with strong interest in one or more of the above-mentioned areas.
We offer a professional work environment and provide many opportunities to work with international collaboration partners from academia and industry through our joint research projects.
The fulfillment of the research and service requirements attached to this position serve at the same time as fulfillment of the academic requirements for a candidate's doctoral degree.
The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50% or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt): E13, 75%.
Please send your application including a letter of motivation, a CV and relevant certificates (all in one single pdf file) to Mrs. Simone Roß-Krichbaum, Sekretariat Angewandte Geothermie (email@example.com) referring to MEET. Please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Kristian Bär (firstname.lastname@example.org, +49 6151 16 22295) if you have any further questions.
