The working group International Management and Governance (IMG) in the Faculty of Business Studies and Economics at the University of Bremen invites outstanding candidates to apply for the position of a
part-time (50%) Research Assistant (f/m/d)
in the salary class 13 TV-L for 3 years.
The position is intended to support your qualification for a doctoral degree, and the post is to be filled as soon as possible (under the condition of job release).
The duration of the contract follows from § 2 (1) WissZeitVG (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz). Candidates that do not have the required qualification periods according to § 2 (1) WissZeitVG, e.g., due to prior employment at a German university, cannot be considered.
Who we are
The IMG working group performs research in the field of International Business, focusing on the role of multinational enterprises (MNEs) in the digital and green transitions. We have two central goals. First, we aim to expand the academic literature by contributing new perspectives through empirical data analysis and theory development. Second, we strive for research that can have an impact beyond an academic audience.
For example, we are exploring how multinational enterprises can cope with the profound policy changes necessary to reach net zero-emission targets. In addition, we are engaged in research collaborations that focus on the green transition of the airline and shipping industries and the role of seaports in greening global value chains. Outside of our primary research area, we explore other relevant and contemporary topics related to the economic and social impact of MNEs on home and host countries.
What we offer
The 50% part-time position allows you to combine the work on your doctoral dissertation with a research-centered job at the University of Bremen. Your main tasks will be related to students and coursework, such as developing new teaching content, correcting exams, and supervising students. In addition, you will have the prospect of contributing to the research projects of your colleagues.
Parallel to your employment, you will work on your doctoral research. The IMG offers you the exceptional opportunity to propose a research topic that is of interest to you and that reflects our primary research area. You will write a cumulative dissertation that consists of at least three articles (at least one single-authored) with the goal of publishing in academic journals.
Due to student supervision, teaching, and team meetings, we regularly require your presence on campus. However, we also offer flexible working hours and the option of working at home within an agreed schedule. We support you in visiting selected workshops and conferences to establish a network beyond the IMG working group and provide you with the necessary software tools for your research. In addition, the University of Bremen offers numerous benefits to its employees, including a lively campus, sport offers, and numerous workshops for doctoral candidates.
Who you are
You hold a Master of Science degree or similar in business studies, strategic management, economics, or a comparable field with direct relevance for International Business research. You have excellent results in your graduate study (at least ‘good’ in the German scheme or B/upper second in other grading schemes). You are familiar with the basic principles of research, fluent in English, and motivated to do academic research. Team spirit and the ability to work on projects independently complete your profile.
The university is family-friendly, diverse and sees itself as an international university. We therefore welcome all applicants regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion/belief, disability, age, sexual orientation and identity.
As the University of Bremen intends to increase the proportion of female employees in science, women are particularly encouraged to apply.
Disabled applicants will be given priority if their professional and personal qualifications are essentially the same.
Please send your application with your CV, copies of transcripts and diplomas, and a brief exposé (maximum: 5 pages) on a potential topic for a doctoral dissertation, indicating the reference number A33/23, until 5th of May 2023 to the following contact:
