The research group of PD Dr. Markus Kretz at the Institute of Biochemistry, Genetics and Microbiology is offering a position as PhD student with a strong background in molecular biology / biochemistry.
Our research focuses on analyzing functions and modes of action of long non-protein-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in human tissue homeostasis. In particular, we functionally and mechanistically analyze the roles of lncRNAs and associated proteins in regulation of human epidermal homeostasis and neoplastic tissue, using genetically modified primary cells to generate organotypic tissue as one of our model systems. Our studies aim at enhancing our understanding of how lncRNAs interact with their protein- and RNA- binding partners as well as chromatin and thus help regulating the intricate balance between stem cells undergoing continual regeneration and highly differentiated cells forming the mature tissue environment. Furthermore, we are analyzing how lncRNAs affect these cellular interactions in tissue during skin cancer progression.
