Responsibilities

The Electric Drives and Power Electronic Systems Institute is conducting international leading research in the area of highly efficient and highly compact power electronic systems. Together with Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) a new laboratory called PERL is established conducting fundamental research in the field of high-frequency switched power converters. 

We are looking for outstanding, highly motivated people interested in pursuing Ph.D. research (full position, four years) in this multidisciplinary research field of high-frequency passive components for the application in power electronic systems.

  • Research in the area of high-frequency magnetic and capacitive components for application in power electronic systems.
  • Multiphysics modeling considering parasitic elements.
  • Verification of the concepts using modern circuit simulators as well as FEM simulations.
  • Construction of laboratory prototypes to verify the developed models and approaches.
  • Scientific publication and dissemination of the findings at international conferences and journals.
  • Writing a thesis
  • Contribution to teaching activities of the institute in the scope of the lab.
  • Supervision of Master’s theses in the scope of the lab.  

Profile

Admission Requirements

Completed master degree in physics or electrical engineering (or similar).

Desired Qualification

  • Fundamental knowledge in magnetic and/or capacitive components and corresponding loss mechanisms.
  • Fundamental knowledge in power electronics and control methods.
  • Experience with experimental laboratory as well as theoretical work, using analytic and numerical techniques including circuit simulation programs.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willingness to fully commit yourself as part of an international team.
  • High degree of self-initiative and an inherent curiosity for engineering and interdisciplinary questions.
  • Language: Fluency in English, both written and spoken; knowledge of German is an advantage.

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 50,103.20 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.
