Job Description

The professorship forms part of the strategic positioning of the Faculty of Law, which encompasses the following objectives: innovation, interdisciplinarity and internationalisation. With this professorship, the faculty is strengthening its visibility in the field of corporate law in the broader sense, including its EU and international aspects. The successful candidate will comprehensively be responsible for Austrian, European and international corporate law in the broadest sense in research and teaching; a focus on Southeast Europe is preferred. The research focuses on general company law and corporate law, each including their EU and international aspects, whilst paying particular attention to the interfaces with related areas of law and disciplines. Specialist expertise, for example in antitrust law, unfair competition law, intellectual property law, banking and capital markets law, European or international commercial law, or accounting law, is preferred. The professorship is expected to attract third-party funds for national and international research projects and will contribute to the university’s and faculty’s core research areas.

Employment Requirements

  • Austrian or equivalent foreign higher education degree corresponding with the position (doctorate/PhD)
  • Habilitation or equivalent qualification in the field of corporate law
  • Outstanding academic qualifications in research and teaching in the relevant discipline and for the profile of the professorship (commensurate with stage of academic career and interruptions in employment due to caring responsibilities)
  • Successful acquisition of subject-specific projects; in particular, competitive third-party funding
  • Skills in higher education didactics including the use of digital media
  • Skills in the supervision and guidance of early career researchers
  • Professional experience abroad during academic career
  • Management and leadership experience
  • Gender mainstreaming and diversity management skills
  • Broad grounding (proven by academic publications) in Austrian company law or commercial law
  • Experience in presenting papers (in Austria and abroad)
  • Network within the academic community
  • Experience with and willingness to actively participate in the various responsibilities covered by the university’s self-administration
  • Very good knowledge of German in speaking and writing; very good knowledge of English in speaking and writing
  • Willingness to contribute to the Fields of Excellence of the University of Graz
  • Willingness to participate in the faculty’s doctoral programmes

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, aiming for academic excellence and integrity in research and teaching. He/she will have demonstrated ability to collaborate constructively in a responsible manner and inspire colleagues and students in an interdisciplinary, internationally oriented context.

The minimum remuneration as stated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement is € 93,986.20 gross per year. Salary subject to negotiation.
