PhD position on Plant Cell Death and Immunity (f/m/x)

The offered position is part of the Collaborative Research Centre 1403 (CRC1403) on cell death in immunity, inflammation and disease. This multidisciplinary consortium aims to understand mechanisms and regulation of regulated cell death in immunity, inflammation and host-microbe interactions. The successful applicant will join the project `Cell death signalling peptides in maize immunity – Molecular mechanisms of signal generation, transduction and perception‘ (https://sfb1403.uni-koeln.de/projects/b02-doehlemann-misas-villamil) in a highly collaborative environment with colleagues working in both plant sciences and human diseases, focusing on cell death signalling in maize.

YOUR TASKS

  • Identify cell death-related peptide signals in maize plants
  • Study the role of phytocytokines as danger and pro-survival signals
  • Investigate the role of plant proteases involved in regulated cell death
  • Collaborate with project partners working on cell death regulation in other plant systems and animal / human diseases

YOUR PROFILE

  • MSc in Biology or a related field and documented skills in molecular plant biology required
  • Experience in plant cell biology, protein biochemistry and transcriptome/proteome profiling is desirable
  • Excellent English skills, both written and spoken
  • Fascination for molecular plant–microbe interaction
